    Ontario Stewardship Rangers

Since 1999, our Stewardship Council has sponsored the Ontario Stewardship Ranger (OSR) Youth Employment Program.

This is an excellent program that provides four young people with community-based work experience, personal development, skills, and training in natural resource stewardship.

Rangers build boardwalkWe like to emphasize the educational component of the program for the Rangers. For the past programs we have obtained exceptional support from MNR district staff, Conservation Authority staff, as well as community associations and interest groups. Our program's training opportunities will include first-aid and CPR, WHMIS, WDHP, boating safety and certification, species identification (trees, shrubs, fish, fur-bearers, amphibians, wild flowers), fish hatchery operations, forest inventory and management techniques, wetlands (protection, evaluation, function) and rare and endangered species awareness and habitat improvement.

For this project our council takes an organizational and supportive role. Funding for the crew and coordinator is received through MNR youth programs provincial funding.

Our Stewardship Council is very proud of this project and the opportunities that it has offered to young people. Click on the link for more information on locations and how to apply to the Stewardship Youth Ranger program.
